How to prevent paint cans from evaporating at high temperatures?

1. Cool Storage
• Warehouse Temperature ≤25°C: Paint warehouses should be cool and well-ventilated, avoiding direct sunlight. Outdoor storage should be shaded and covered with reflective insulation cloth to reduce can surface temperature by 8-12°C.
• Avoid "hot surface" work: When substrate temperatures exceed 50°C, suspend outdoor spraying. Apply paint during cooler hours in the morning and evening to minimize exposure to the cans.
2. Reduce Evaporation Rate
• Use a slow-drying thinner: In summer, add ≤10% slow-drying water to the thinner to slow down the surface drying rate and minimize instantaneous solvent evaporation.
• Control the time it takes to open a can: Immediately replace the cover after pouring out the required amount, minimizing exposure time.
3. Reduce Vapor Concentration
• Improve Ventilation: Maintain forced exhaust in warehouses or work areas, and keep solvent vapor concentrations below 25% LEL to prevent explosions. • Nitrogen Replacement: For large drums stored for long periods of time, nitrogen can be added after opening and then sealed to create an inert protective layer on the top.
4. Enhanced Sealing
• Double-layer Lid: Main lid + inner plug + aluminum foil heat-sealed film. This cuts off the evaporation path and reduces evaporation by over 60%.
• Elastic Sealing Gasket: Use oil-resistant silicone or PTFE gaskets that do not harden at high temperatures, ensuring a resilient seal after a second opening.
• Pressure Relief Valve: Install a 0.2 bar pressure relief valve on drums ≥10 L to prevent thermal expansion and prevent air from entering.
5. Transportation and On-site Management
• Carriage Temperature Monitoring: Place ice packs or an insulated box during transportation to maintain a temperature ≤35°C; the temperature probe will trigger an alarm if it exceeds the temperature.
• On-site "Small Bucket Repackaging": Divide 20 L drums into 1-2 L small buckets in advance to reduce evaporation from repeated openings.
