How often should industrial oil tanks be cleaned?
Sep 15, 2025
1. Regular Cleaning Cycle
Lightweight oil tanks (such as gasoline and diesel): Recommended cleaning every 2-3 years.
Heavyweight oil tanks (such as heavy diesel and lubricating oil): Typically cleaned every 3-5 years.
Tanker truck tanks: Due to direct contact with the oil and a high risk of corrosion, they require a thorough cleaning every six months.
2. Cleaning Requirements for Special Situations
Oil Product Changes: When switching to another type of oil, a thorough cleaning is required to prevent chemical reactions or contamination.
Maintenance or Hot Work: Cleaning is required in advance to eliminate the risk of fire and explosion.
Leaks or Damage: Immediate cleaning and inspection are required if leaks or tank abnormalities are detected.
3. Industry Regulations and Safety Standards
National regulations stipulate that the overhaul interval for storage tanks is 5-7 years, and cleaning is required before maintenance. During regular inspections, if deposits (such as sludge) are found that could affect oil quality, the cleaning cycle may need to be shortened.
4. Cleaning Technology Selection
Mechanized cleaning is recommended for large oil tanks to avoid the safety risks of manual cleaning (such as poisoning and explosion).
After cleaning, the tank must be thoroughly dried and inspected for integrity.
