What to do if a solder drum leaks air?

Dec 29, 2025

I. Immediately stop using and isolate the leak.

Close the valve: First, turn off the valve of the solder drum to cut off the gas supply.

Move to a ventilated area: Move the drum to an open, well-ventilated place, away from heat sources and electrical appliances.

II. Check for leaks.

Listen to the sound: Leaks are usually accompanied by a hissing sound; follow the sound to find the leak.

Apply soapy water: Apply soapy water to joints, welds, etc. Where bubbles appear, that's the leak.

III. Treat according to the type of leak.

Joint leak: Loose screws? Tighten them.

Broken gasket? Replace it.

Valve problem: Clogged valve core or minor malfunction? Clean it.

Valve core or the entire valve is broken? Must be replaced.

Weld leak: Usually, the entire drum needs to be replaced; do not attempt to repair it yourself.

IV. Safety Precautions

Do not use open flames: Smoking, lighters, and electrical appliances are strictly prohibited. Maintain ventilation: Open windows to allow the gas to dissipate.

Seek help promptly: If you can't handle it yourself, call a professional repairman; don't try to fix it yourself.

V. Preventing leaks

Regular checks: Test the seal with soapy water; detect problems early.

Proper use: Don't overfill; keep away from high temperatures, humidity, and strong acids and alkalis.

Choose the right material: Buy food-grade pure tin containers; avoid lead-tin alloy containers.
