What should I do if the sealing cover of the paint can is broken?

1. Temporary sealing measures
Use plastic wrap: If there is still paint left in the paint can, you can first cover the mouth of the can with a layer of plastic wrap, and then cover the sealing cover. This can reduce the entry of air and prevent the paint from deteriorating.
Inverted can: For oil-based paint, you can first cover the damaged sealing cover tightly, and then place the can upside down, so that the fluidity of the paint itself can be used to fill the gap of the sealing cover to prevent air from entering.
2. Replace the sealing cover
Buy a suitable sealing cover: If the sealing cover is seriously damaged, it is recommended to buy a new sealing cover that matches the paint can for replacement.
Homemade sealing cover: If you can't find a suitable sealing cover, you can try to make a temporary sealing cover with thick cardboard or plastic sheets, but this method may not be as effective as the original sealing cover.
3. Repair the sealing cover
Cleaning the sealing cover: If the sealing cover is only stuck with paint or has a small amount of damage, you can try to carefully pry open the sealing cover with a tool (such as a screwdriver), clean off the paint residue on it and reinstall it.
Use sealant: For sealing covers with cracks or small holes, sealant can be used to repair them. Apply the sealant to the cracks or small holes and use it again after it dries.
4. Other precautions
Avoid direct sunlight: Regardless of what measures are taken, the paint cans should be stored in a cool, ventilated, dry place, away from direct sunlight to extend the service life of the paint.
Marking information: After resealing, it is recommended to mark the name, color, production date and other information of the paint on the can body for subsequent use.
