How to store dried olive oil cans

Oct 10, 2025

1. Container Selection
Dried olive oil cans should preferably be stored in dark glass, food-grade stainless steel, or ceramic containers. Avoid transparent plastic or rust-prone metal containers. Dark materials effectively block UV rays and prevent oxidation.
2. Sealing
Secure the cap immediately after each use to minimize air contact. Large-capacity olive oil cans are recommended to be divided into 200-500ml vials, allowing you to dispense as needed to reduce the risk of oxidation from repeated opening.
3. Storage Environment
Temperature: Ideally, the temperature should be between 10-20°C. Avoid temperatures exceeding 25°C or falling below 5°C (which may cause crystallization).
Light: Store in a cool, dark place (such as the bottom shelf of a cabinet), away from light sources such as windowsills and lamps.
Humidity: Keep the environment dry to prevent moisture from entering the can.
4. Special Storage Techniques
For long-term storage, nitrogen can be injected between the oil surface and the bottle cap to form a protective layer. During high summer temperatures, consider refrigerating (5-15°C), but ensure it is tightly sealed to prevent absorption of odors.
5. Usage and Replacement
Once opened, it is recommended to use within 3-6 months, and no longer than 1 year.
If the oil develops a rancid odor, darkens in color, or has an unusual taste, discontinue use immediately.
