How to Properly Clean and Maintain Glue Cans?

Mar 27, 2026

1. Daily Cleaning Steps (Applicable to Small-Capacity Glue Bottles/Cans)

Pour Out Residual Glue: Immediately pour out any remaining glue after use to prevent it from hardening and clogging.

Solvent Wiping: Use a cotton pad soaked in alcohol or acetone to carefully wipe the inside of the can, the threaded joints, and the gaps in the lid.

Pointed Tool Assistance: Use tweezers to hold a cotton pad or toothpick to clean stubborn residual glue from the grooves of the joints.

Water Rinsing: For water-based glues, soak in warm water with dish soap and then scrub.

⚠️ Caution: Wear gloves during operation, maintain ventilation, and avoid solvent irritation.

2. Industrial-Grade IBC Cleaning (Applicable to IBCs and Metal Storage Tanks)

Hot Water Immersion Method: Pour hot water (above 60℃) to two-thirds of the capacity and let stand for 2 hours to soften and harden the glue layer.

Mechanical Scrubbing: Use a long-handled nylon brush to scrub the inner wall in a spiral motion, focusing on cleaning the bottom and seams.

Chemical Solvent Treatment:
Water-based adhesive residue: Soak in a diluted oxygen bleach solution (1:50).

Industrial adhesive stains: Use organic solvents such as acetone or ethyl acetate, shake tightly for 10 minutes to allow the adhesive layer to flocculently detach.

Rinsing and Drying: After solvent cleaning, rinse repeatedly with clean water at least three times, invert to dry, and place with a desiccant to prevent mold.

📌 Food/pharmaceutical grade tonnes require microbial testing; cleaning wastewater containing heavy metal adhesives should be treated as hazardous waste.

3. Special Adhesive Can Maintenance Tips

Eyelash/Nail Glue Cans:

Wipe the bottle opening clean and tighten the cap after each use.

Store in a dedicated sealed storage container with activated carbon inside to prevent oxidation.

The can can be stored upright in a cool, dark place to prolong the adhesive's activity.

502 Type Instant Glue Cans:

Use within 3 months of opening.

If the glue partially hardens, immerse the entire can in 50℃ warm water for 5 minutes to restore some fluidity.

4. Key Points for Long-Term Maintenance

Anti-oxidation: Ensure no air residue remains in the bottle; fill as full as possible or use a vacuum-sealed container.

Temperature and Humidity Control: Recommended storage temperature is 23–28℃, humidity 55%±15%. Avoid high temperatures or direct sunlight.

Dedicated Storage: Use separate containers for different glue types to reduce cross-contamination and cleaning difficulty.
