How to prevent paint leakage after the paint can is damaged?
Jul 30, 2025
1. Emergency treatment
Immediately clean up the leak: If the paint has started to leak, immediately use materials such as oil-absorbing cotton, oil-absorbing felt or sand to absorb the leaked paint. For small leaks, the leaked paint can be collected in a sealed container.
Transfer the remaining paint: If there is still remaining paint in the can, it should be transferred to other intact containers as soon as possible to avoid further leakage.
2. Repair the damage
Surface treatment: Clean the paint, rust and oil stains around the damage to ensure that the surface is clean.
Use cold welding repair glue: Prepare cold welding repair glue, such as repair glue made of bisphenol A epoxy resin, bisphenol F epoxy resin, ethyl cyanoacrylate and silica powder. Apply the prepared cold welding repair glue evenly to the damaged area, fill it first and then apply it to avoid bubbles in the glue layer.
Curing and grinding: After waiting for the cold welding repair glue to cure, grind the excess glue to keep the surface flat.
3. Safety and environmental protection measures
Prevent the spread of pollution: Set up cofferdams or enclosures in the leakage area to prevent paint from flowing into sewers or other restricted spaces.
Proper disposal of waste: Materials that absorb paint and cleaned paint cans are hazardous wastes and should be handled in accordance with the requirements of the local environmental protection department. They usually need to be handed over to professional hazardous waste disposal agencies.
Wear protective equipment: When handling leaks, wear appropriate protective equipment, such as anti-static work clothes, rubber oil-resistant gloves, chemical safety glasses, etc.
4. Subsequent treatment
Check the source of the leak: After handling the leak, check whether the source of the leak has been completely repaired to ensure that there is no new leak.
Record and report: If the leak incident is serious, the details of the incident should be recorded and reported to the relevant departments.
