How to maintain a stainless steel olive oil can?

1. Clean immediately after each use. After using olive oil, pour out the remaining oil as soon as possible to avoid prolonged standing, which can lead to oxidation and rancidity.
Rinse the inner wall with warm water (around 40℃) to soften the oil film; add a small amount of neutral detergent and wipe with a soft cloth or sponge along the grain. Do not use steel wool to avoid scratching the surface.
Pay special attention to hard-to-reach areas such as the bottle neck threads and the cap seal to prevent oil buildup.
2. Ensure complete drying to prevent water stains and odors. After cleaning, be sure to wipe dry with a lint-free dry cloth or invert to air dry for at least 2 hours to ensure no moisture remains.
Damp environments easily breed bacteria and cause musty smells; ensure the can is completely dry before long-term storage.
3. Store properly, avoiding light and high temperatures.
Store the oil can in a cool, dark place, away from heat sources such as stoves and sunny windowsills.
High temperatures accelerate oil oxidation, affecting flavor and increasing the risk of condensation due to temperature differences between the inside and outside of the container.
4. Regular Deodorization and Deep Cleaning: Perform deep cleaning every 2-3 weeks: use a baking soda and white vinegar foam reaction for cleaning, or boil lemon slices in water to remove odors and scale.
After cleaning, place dry coffee grounds or activated charcoal packets inside, seal, and let stand for 24 hours to absorb potential odor molecules.
5. Check Sealing to Prevent Leaks and Air Intake: Regularly check the sealing ring for aging or deformation, and ensure the threads are aligned; replace any damaged rings promptly.
Apply a small amount of food-grade silicone grease to the threads to improve sealing and smooth opening/closing.
6. Avoid Cross-Contamination: Do not use containers that have held spice oils or used frying oils directly to repackage olive oil.
Use a dedicated funnel when dispensing to reduce impurities and maintain oil purity.
✅ Daily Tip: When not in use for a long time, you can place a dry tea leaf or a small packet of silica gel desiccant inside the container to continuously absorb moisture and prevent odors. Simply remove it before use.
