How to determine if an olive oil can is light-proof?

1. Visual Inspection (Most Direct):
Look at the material and color: Dark glass bottles (such as dark green or brown) or opaque metal containers (tinplate) naturally provide light protection. Transparent glass bottles generally offer little to no light protection.
Observe the contents: If you can see sediment or the internal structure of the olive oil through the container, light can penetrate, indicating poor light protection.

2. Flashlight Test (Most Reliable):
Procedure: In a dimly lit environment, turn on a flashlight and shine the light close to the outside of the container.
Judgment:
Good light protection: Light cannot penetrate the container at all; no light can be seen from the inside.
Poor or no light protection: Light can clearly pass through the inside of the container, especially in transparent glass bottles.

3. Product Information Verification:
Check the packaging instructions: Legitimate olive oil products usually indicate "light-proof packaging" or "dark glass bottle" on the label or promotional materials.

Understand brand practices: Some high-end olive oil brands have long used dark glass bottles or special coatings, which is also a reflection of their light-blocking properties.
