How to clean and maintain a plastic olive oil jar?

I. Basic Cleaning Methods
1. Baking Soda + Warm Water Degreasing Method
Mix two tablespoons of baking soda with 40°C warm water and pour it into the jar. Shake and let it sit for 15 minutes to emulsify the grease on the inner wall. If the grease is stubborn, add shredded paper towels to enhance friction and absorption.
2. White Vinegar Degreasing Method
Soak the jar in a 1:3 ratio of white vinegar for two hours. Acetic acid breaks down triglyceride chains and is particularly effective in removing saturated fatty acid residues like peanut oil.
II. Deep Cleaning Techniques
1. Flour Absorption Method
Place dry flour in the jar, seal it, and shake for three minutes. The physical friction removes the oil film, making it ideal for cleaning tight corners like the bottle's threads.
2. Sun Exposure for Deodorization
Expose the cleaned container upside down in the sun for three days. Ultraviolet rays accelerate the oxidation and volatilization of grease. However, HDPE should not be exposed to sunlight for more than five consecutive days to prevent aging. III. Maintenance Considerations
1. Material Selection: HDPE or PP5 food-grade plastics are preferred, as they have small molecular gaps and are less likely to absorb oil odors.
2. Avoid High Temperatures: Keep the washing water temperature below 80°C and store away from heat sources to prevent deformation.
3. Regular Replacement: Use within 3-6 months after opening. Replace immediately if fogging, scratches, or odor develops.
4. Odor Removal Methods
1. Tea Leaf Adsorption: Seal and let wet tea leaves sit for 48 hours. Tea polyphenols can bind to aldehydes and ketones.
2. Lemon Juice Neutralization: Soak in diluted lemon juice and shake. Citrus essential oils can mask any remaining odors.
