How to avoid paint splattering when opening a paint can?

Nov 28, 2025

1. Wear safety goggles. Choose sealed splash-proof goggles to completely block paint splatter from entering your eyes. Ordinary glasses or masks do not provide sufficient protection; use specialized safety goggles that meet national standards.

2. Choose a well-ventilated environment. Ensure good ventilation before operation, preferably outdoors or indoors with powerful ventilation equipment. Ventilation reduces the concentration of volatile chemicals in the air, minimizing the risk of explosion, and also accelerates the dispersion of splatter paint mist.

3. Use oil-free tools. Tools should be free of oil and rust, such as clean screwdrivers or can openers. Avoid contaminating the paint with impurities, and ensure the tool head is flat for precise prying of the can lid, reducing accidental splattering due to tool slippage.

4. Other auxiliary measures.
Open slowly: For sealed caps, pry evenly along the edge; for screw caps, slowly rotate counterclockwise to avoid sudden release of internal pressure. Allow to settle and release pressure: After opening, pause briefly to allow the pressure inside the can to naturally equalize.

Keep away from open flames: Avoid direct sunlight and high-temperature areas during operation to prevent abnormal pressure increases inside the can.
