How to prevent glue cans from rusting?

Apr 16, 2025

1. Keep it dry
Control humidity: Try to store glue cans in a dry, well-ventilated environment to avoid rust caused by humid environments.
Drying treatment: After washing or cleaning the glue can, make sure it is completely dry. You can use hot air drying or natural ventilation.
2. Use anti-rust coating
Coating protection: Apply anti-rust coatings such as anti-rust oil, paint or epoxy resin to the inner and outer surfaces of the glue can. These coatings can effectively isolate air and moisture to prevent rust.
Regular inspection: Check the integrity of the coating regularly, and repair it in time if it is damaged.
3. Use corrosion-resistant materials
Stainless steel material: Choose stainless steel (such as 304 or 316) to make glue cans. These materials have good corrosion resistance.
Alloying treatment: Adding metals such as chromium and nickel to ordinary steel to make stainless steel can effectively improve rust resistance.
4. Control the environment
Avoid moisture and pollution: Avoid exposing the glue cans to moisture or pollution for a long time, especially the environment containing corrosive gases (such as sulfur dioxide, hydrochloric acid gas, etc.).
Storage conditions: Store the glue cans in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and high temperature.
5. Regular cleaning and maintenance
Cleaning the can: Regularly clean the inner and outer surfaces of the glue cans to remove dust, dirt and residual glue.
Inspection and repair: Regularly check the glue cans for signs of rust or corrosion, and repair them in time.
6. Use rust inhibitors
Rust-proof oil: Apply a layer of rust-proof oil on the surface of the glue cans to form a protective film to prevent the intrusion of oxygen and moisture.
VCI packaging: Use volatile corrosion inhibitor (VCI) packaging materials, which can release molecules to prevent rust.
7. Other measures
Avoid hand contact: When handling glue cans, avoid direct contact with metal surfaces with your hands, because the oil and sweat on your hands may promote rust.
Proper design: Avoid places where water or dust accumulates in the structural design of the glue tank, which can easily lead to local corrosion.
