Can We Use Electric Welding On Uncleaned Empty Oil Drums?

May 12, 2024

No, it is strictly prohibited to use electric welding on uncleaned empty oil drums.
Arc welding is a high-temperature open flame operation that produces a large number of sparks and hot metal droplets during welding. Improper operation can easily cause fire or explosion accidents. The reasons include the following: flying sparks, particles of molten metal and slag, igniting flammable materials (such as oil, wood, cotton yarn, etc.) and flammable gases near the welding joint to cause fire. A fire may occur if the insulation of the welding machine cable or the welding machine itself is damaged and a short circuit occurs. Welding uncleaned oil tanks, oil drums, boiler gas storage cylinders with air pressure, and welding near pressure in rooms with flammable gases can also cause fire or explosion accidents.
